E01 and P1 appear on GE dehumidifiers with a built-in pump when water is not being pumped out in Pump Out Mode.
Model compatibility: GE reuses codes across series and model years, so E01 / P1 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Pump Out Mode is on but water is not being pumped out.
A GE dehumidifier with a built-in drain pump shows a fault code when it is set to Pump Out Mode (Pump On) and water is not leaving the unit while it runs. The 70-pint built-in pump models display E01. The 50-pint built-in pump models display P1.
How to correct it
Make sure the pump hose is properly installed onto the dehumidifier.
Confirm the bucket is securely in place.
Unplug the dehumidifier, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in to reset it.
Which models show which code
The code depends on size: E01 on 70-pint pump models, P1 on 50-pint models. Models without a built-in drain pump do not use this code.
Do not confuse it with 88
A reading of 88 at power-up is normal until the relative humidity is set, so it is not the same problem.
